On the Road

vintage carBecause the book that I have coming out in a few weeks involves a rather lengthy road trip — and because my family and I went on one of those (nearly 3,000 miles round trip!) this summer — cars have been on my mind a lot lately.

I’ve never been particularly knowledgeable about vehicles the way some people are. My husband, for instance, can identify the make and model of almost any car — foreign or domestic — just by glancing at the shape of it as we zip down the highway. Me? Well, I’ve only managed to point out the ones I’ve owned before, which limits my range of recognition considerably (i.e., to Oldsmobile Cutlass Cieras, Honda Civics and Hyundai Accents).

But I do think there are a lot of really cool cars on the road…both from past eras and from our current one. When I first started teaching, the elementary school I worked at was located in a pretty affluent suburb, so there were some really ritzy car dealerships in the area — including one for Ferraris. I’ve never even ridden in a Ferrari, let alone ever

aston martincontemplated buying one, but I did enjoy looking at them in the lot when I drove by (in my Oldsmobile, LOL). And then there’s the famous “James Bond car” — the Aston Martin — which is another vehicle I’ve only seen but never gone for a ride in. I imagine it would be fun. And fast!

Are you a car person? Do you have a favorite kind of car — either to own or to fantasize about owning?! And if you were to go on a cross-country road trip and could take any particular make or model, which would it be? I’d love to know!! For my part, I’d probably have to say a 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am…just because that’s the car I gave my hero in my new book and I’d love to take it for a spin just once!

Book Blitz - RoadToYouBy the way, I’ve got a giveaway going on right now!! There’s a Goodreads contest in progress for five signed paperback copies of my upcoming novel — The Road to You — which runs through October 2nd, just before my release day. If you’re a member of the site, I hope you’ll visit my Goodreads giveaway page and enter to win one of them!

Also, if you’re a blogger and would like to take part in the release week Book Blitz, there are sign-ups for that on this Xpresso Book Tours page. Participants will get to host a giveaway for one ebook copy of my novel (it’s a coming-of-age romantic mystery) and/or for a blitz-wide grand prize, and there will be excerpts and a Q&A available for everyone to post on their blog, if they’d like. :)

Happy Friday the 13th, everyone, and may you all have a wonderful weekend!!
